Juice Cleanse: Reset Tool or Just Hype?

Watch The HHD Episode

Did I just spend 3 days only drinking juice? Yes.

Was it worth it? Also yes.

But let’s unpack what that actually means. Because a juice cleanse isn’t magic. It’s not detoxing your soul. And it’s definitely not a long-term solution.

For me, it was a reset button…not a miracle fix.

First: Let’s talk about what a Juice Cleanse Is (And Isn’t)

Your body already detoxes itself. Your liver and kidneys handle that daily without you needing green juice to “flush toxins.”

So no…a juice cleanse is not cleansing your organs.

What’s actually happening is:

  • Removing processed foods

  • Dramatically lowering sodium

  • Reducing calories

  • Increasing hydration

  • Flooding your system with micronutrients (temporarily)

  • Giving your digestive system a break from heavy meals

Think of it like a short breakup with junk food…dramatic, slightly emotional, but sometimes necessary.

Why I Felt Lighter, Flatter, and More Energetic

One of my favorite things about a juice cleanse is GIRL that stomach be on FLAT, FLAT!

When you drastically lower carbs and sodium, your body releases stored glycogen. Glycogen holds onto water. So when glycogen drops, water drops.

That’s why…your stomach looks flatter, you feel lighter and the number on the scale drops.

Now, it’s mostly water weight, not fat loss so the number will likely go back to your normal weight.

I also cut out ultra-processed foods, alcohol, and heavy meals. That alone reduces bloating and inflammation for a lot of women.

Plus, I was hyper-hydrated. Water is key during a juice cleanse.

What’s Happening Inside Your Body

Here’s the grown-woman breakdown:

  • Protein intake drops significantly

  • Calories are much lower

  • Blood sugar may fluctuate

  • Muscle breakdown can happen if extended too long

  • Cortisol can increase if you’re already stressed

For women in their 30s+, we have to be careful with extreme anything. Muscle matters. Hormones matter. Stress matters.

A 3-day reset is one thing. Living on juice is another…we not doing that LOL.

If You Want to Do One, Do It Smart!

If you’ve never done a juice cleanse before, don’t go cold turkey. Here’s what I suggest!

Prep 3–7 days beforehand. You’ll want to slowly remove processed foods, reduce heavy carbs, increase fruits and vegetables, and lighten your meals.

If you’re struggling during your cleanse, it’s okay to have raw avocado, vegetable broth, salad with lemon juice (don’t add dressing), and herbal tea.

Give yourself grace. Especially the first time. It’s really hard mentally and emotionally. The more you do it, the “easier” it gets.

At the end of your cleanse, don’t go get a 12 piece lemon pepper wing. No ma’am! Your stomach will hate you. Plus, you don’t want all the suffering you just did to go to waste. You want to transition out of your cleanse slowly by adding foods back gradually. Slowly add light proteins, cooked veggies and easy-to-digest meals.

What you do after matters just as much as the cleanse itself.

When to do a cleanse?

  • After vacation

  • When sugar cravings are out of control

  • As a mental reset

  • When you need discipline

  • Before a trip if you want to de-bloat

It can feel empowering. It can feel accomplishing.

Remember, it’s a tool…not a lifestyle.

So here’s my honest take!

Did it suck while it was happening? Immediately yes!

Was I hungry? GIRRRRL Heck Ya!

But did I feel proud after? 100%.

But I don’t rely on juice cleanses for progress. Sustainable results come from consistent nutrition, adequate protein, strength training, hydration, and sleep.

A cleanse is a short reset. Not a solution.

If you’re considering one, do it intentionally. Not emotionally. And not as punishment.

Your body deserves support. Not shock therapy.

A lot of people ask where I get my juices from. I’ve tried different companies but I always go back to Pressed Juicery. They have different cleanses and a mix of different juices. I also like their membership program which makes the juices cheaper by joining. It can get expensive!

Happy Juicing sister!
